Auxiliary Drives :: Turning GearsSSS Clutches provide automatic connection and disconnection of slow speed turning (barring) drives providing both high torque capacity and high overrunning speed capability for these drives. When the main machine is operating the pawls of the SSS Clutch retract ensuring that there is no contact between the input and output sides of the clutch and hence no wear. SSS offers a range of standard low cost SSS Clutches for this duty for mounting on a free shaft end (for example a gearbox) and can offer other designs to cater for many customer requirements eg axial movements caused by thermal expansion. When no shaft end is available SSS Pinion Clutches can be used and are mounted in a mid-shaft position. When a small drive through the SSS Clutch is required, for example for
an oil pump, other arrangements are available.
